Brisbane Grammar School is a non-denominational boys school of about 1700 students (Years 5-12) that overlooks the Brisbane CBD. The role

The Library Technician is a specialist in the school who actively assists students and staff to access both print and digital information in any of our three on-campus libraries. The person applying for this position will hold, or be working towards, professional qualifications as a Library Technician.

The successful candidate will be vibrant and dynamic and will have a good rapport when interacting with boys and staff. They will have an interest in YA literature and enjoy sharing this with the school community. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. actively assisting users to access information through the use of the Library’s management system, print collection, web pages and e-resources;
  2. assisting in the development and promotion of more efficient ways to access information;
  3. assisting with maintaining the physical and online collections.;
  4. actively promoting reading and literature and assisting with programs and events to further a culture of reading within the school; and
  5. supervising students in the libraries as required.

The successful candidate 

This is an exciting and rewarding role for someone who enjoys working with students and educators in a collaborative environment. There are challenges to meet in providing exceptional customer service while juggling competing priorities, unexpected events and contributing to project work. But your ability to build rapport with people, think on your feet and make good decisions will ensure continued success. You will need a flexible mindset and get satisfaction out of delivering an engaging and positive experience for students and teachers alike.   

As a minimum, we’re looking for:   

  • Library Technician Qualification (preferably);
  • A knowledge of library collections, both online and print;
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft products;
  • Excellent written communication skills and a high level of literacy;
  • Initiative, creativity and a flexible attitude to change;
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities and deadlines;
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach;
  • An ability to build and maintain relationships and networks while enhancing the School’s values and culture;
  • An engaging and confident approach when interacting with students;
  • Commitment to implementing a safe working environment and modelling safe practice;
  • Eligibility for a Blue Card (Queensland Working with Children Check) positive notice and a blue card; and
  • Understanding of and commitment to the ethos of independent schooling.
